STAMFORD, Conn. – Feb. 8, 2021 – Wednesday Night Hockey showcases a matchup between Original Six rivals this week when David Pastrnak and the East Division-leading Boston Bruins face Artemi Panarin and the New York Rangers at 7 p.m. ET on NBCSN.
NBC Sports’ NHL coverage this week begins tonight with a ‘Battle of New York’ showdown between Mathew Barzal and the New York Islanders and Panarin and the Rangers at 7 p.m. ET on NBCSN.
Tomorrow night features a Hockey Happy Hour doubleheader on NBCSN, beginning with Alex Ovechkin and the Washington Capitals hosting Claude Giroux and the Philadelphia Flyers at 6 p.m. ET, followed by Steven Stamkos and the defending Stanley Cup champion Tampa Bay Lightning against Roman Josi and the Nashville Predators at 8:30 p.m. ET.
Sunday’s doubleheader gets underway with NHL on NBC’s Valentine’s Day date between Sidney Crosby and the Pittsburgh Penguins and Ovechkin and the Capitals at 3 p.m. ET. Sunday Night Hockey features Mark Stone and the Vegas Golden Knights hosting Cale Makar and the Colorado Avalanche at 7 p.m. ET.
A pair of Notre Dame hockey matchups against No. 5 Minnesota will be presented on Friday and Saturday. Friday’s game will air at 7:30 p.m. ET on NBCSN, and Saturday’s will be available on NBC Sports’ digital platforms at 5:30 p.m. ET.
This week continues NBC Sports’ presentation of Frozen February, a month-long celebration of hockey and digital and social content centering on the intersection of race and diversity in the sport as part of Black History Month.

BRUINS-FLYERS VIEWERSHIP
Last week’s Wednesday Night Hockey game between the Boston Bruins and Philadelphia Flyers averaged a Total Audience Delivery (TAD) of 656,000 viewers on NBCSN, making it the network’s most-watched NHL game since Opening Night. When excluding Opening Nights, it is the most-watched regular-season game on the network in almost two years (3/17/19).

Florida Panthers Assistant General Manager Brett Peterson, the first black individual to hold that role in the NHL, joined NHL on NBC analyst Anson Carterfor a conversation about his introduction to hockey, the experiences he had with the sport growing up, and what his day-to-day responsibilities are in his role on the business side of the sport, on the latest episode of NBC Sports’ Hockey Culture.

Peterson on the life lessons he learned from the sport of hockey: “Take a hit and keep moving forward…the beauty about sports is it forces you to deal with so many life experiences whether you like it or not.”
Peterson on his mantra of how he treats others: “I’ve always tried to circulate to really good people, so I just saw people. Now, I’d be lying to you if I didn’t know I was different in terms of representation. But I held everyone to a higher standard that they were going to accept me as a good person and a pretty good hockey player.”
Earlier today in celebration of Black History Month, Hockey Culture released a video essay, narrated by Carter, revisiting the origins of the Colored Hockey League and the lasting impact it has had on the modern-day sport.
