Former cruiserweight kingpin, Oleksandr Usyk overcame a game and spirited effort by Dereck Chisora to win the WBO Intercontinental heavyweight title. Usyk, 33, won by unanimous decision with scores of 115-113, 115-113, and 117-112. TVSports had the fight scored 116-112. Chisora (32-10, 23 KO), came out aggressively and looked to impose his size and will on the lighter Usyk, but eventually, Usyk found his rhythm in the middle rounds and began to wear him down. With his victory, Usyk (18-0, 13 KO), now becomes the mandatory challenger for the unified champion, Anthony Joshua’s WBO world title. Joshua, 30, was ringside and is currently scheduled to face the mandatory for his IBF belt, Kubrat Pulev on December 12, 2020. After the fight, Usyk was asked if he had a message for Joshua. His response was in his typical fun-loving tone, “Anthony, how are you? I’m coming for you.” we’ll see if Joshua responds.
