The Knicks, who now have a record of 25-27, have now lost 5 of the last 6 games. As for the Celtics, they now have a record of 26-26, earning a win after losing to the Philadelphia 76ers on Tuesday night. Although the Celtics were without Kemba Walker and Evan Fournier on Wednesday night, that did not stop them from finishing strong.
Jaylen Brown and Jayson Tatum Guide Celtics to Win
Jaylen Brown finished with 32 points on Wednesday night. Brown came out full of energy and helping to set the tone for the Celtics on Saturday night. In the first half alone, Brown scored 13 points and had 5 rebounds. By the time the end of the game rolled around, Brown also had 10 rebounds, 3 assists, and 2 rebounds. Brown shot 12/26 from the field and 5/13 from the three-point line.
Jayson Tatum, who averages 25.1 points per game and 6.9 rebounds per game, had a fantastic game on Wednesday night. Tatum finished with 25 points, 10 rebounds, and 5 assists. Also, playing the most minutes in the game was Tatum with 42 minutes. Tatum went 3/9 from the three-point line, 10/21 from the field, and 2/2 from the free-throw line.
A Close Game
Both teams showed up, ready to fight for the win in Wednesday night’s matchup. Though both teams went back and forth in the first quarter, the Celtics came out with the lead. The Celtics shot 33% from the field, having 19 rebounds and 5-second chance points in the first quarter. The Knicks, who shot 37% from the field, had 12 rebounds and 0-second chance points. At the end of the first, the Knicks were trailing by two, the score 21-19. Both teams went back and forth in the second quarter, gaining and losing the lead. At the end of the first half, the second had made 18-second chance points and were up by only 1 point (47-46).
The Knicks were able to outscore the Celtics in the third quarter, scoring 27 points, whereas the Celtics scored 23. In the fourth quarter, things started heating up when the Knicks gained the lead. The Knicks were able to hold the lead for most of the fourth quarter until the Celtics started to come back. In the final minutes of the game, it was a single possession game, both teams going back and forth to stay in it. Marcus Smart hit a clutch three late in the fourth that put the Celtics up by three. Jaylen Brown was then fouled, making 1 out of his 2 free throws putting the Celtics up by 4 points.
Tristan Thompson Returns to the Lineup
Tristan Thompson returned to the lineup for Wednesday night’s matchup after missing the last 12 games due to health and safety protocols. In his last 10 appearances, Thompson averaged 10.5 points, 8.6 rebounds, and 3.7 rebounds. This season Thompson has had 10+ rebounds 13 times. Thompson, who made many great plays on Wednesday night, made a big block in the fourth quarter. Thompson’s block led to Brown scoring and making it a 1-point game. At the end of the game, Thomspon had 7 points, 8 rebounds, and 3 blocks.
