Alabama A&M Tops Jackson State in High-Flying Shootout

Date:

Quarterback Aqeel Glass led the Alabama A&M Bulldogs with 6 passing touchdowns to a 52-43 shootout win over the Jackson State Tigers.

Glass turned in an incredible performance, going off for 440 passing yards on 27/40. He also ran in a 5-yard TD of his own, totaling 7 TDs on the day. The senior did all of that without committing a single turnover.

Two of Glass’ receivers topped the century-mark, Zabrian Moore and Odieu Hilaire. Moore had 4 catches for 114, including a 61-yard TD late in the first half.

The Tigers were far from lacking in offense of their own. QB Quincy Casey tossed 323 and 4 TDs, without any turnovers. He got help from Tigers running back Santee Marshall, who went for 126 and a TD on 19 carries.

Offensive Showcase

The teams combined for 95 points, producing a box score that looked more like a low-scoring basketball game than a D1 football game.

A scoring drive, of which there were 14, averaged under 2:30 of game-time. Both teams totaled 996 yards of total offense.

A 54-yard running TD from Marshall kicked off a second quarter that saw 35 points scored. Three of the five TDs scored in the quarter came on plays of more than 40 yards.

The teams traded blow after blow, and a 61-yard Glass-to-Moore connection put the Bulldogs up 28-21 entering halftime.

Bulldogs Extend Their Lead

The third-quarter saw the Bulldogs push their lead to 10. They held the Tigers to just one TD in the quarter.

Spencer Corey knocked through a 34-yard field goal, the only made field goal of the game, with 3:41 left in the third.

The Bulldogs scored again to open the fourth quarter, extending their lead to 17, the team’s largest of the game.

Tigers Come Up Short

Despite 15 late points from the Tigers, the Bulldogs held on for the win.

Glass led a 10-play, 75-yard drive that lasted 4:10, the longest scoring drive of the game. Anthony Howard punched in a 4-yard TD run that pushed the Bulldog’s lead back up to 17 with under 3 minutes left, effectively ending the game.
