SAN DIEGO, CA — The Texas Tech Red Raiders (26-9, 12-6 Big 12) were explosive throughout the entire game as the Red Raiders starting-five combined for 75 points in a 97-62 blowout win against the Montana State Bobcats (27-8, 16-4 Big Sky).
Texas Tech was on fire at the start of the game. After a jump shot from Abdul Mohamed, the Red Raiders went on a 10-0 run to have a 10-2 lead against Montana State.
The Red Raiders continued their momentum and scored 52 points in the first half, entering halftime with a 27-point lead over the Bobcats.
TTU shot 18-of-25 (72.0%) from the field and 7-of-10 (70.0%) from deep in the first half.
The Red Raiders continued with an offensive onslaught and finished the game shooting 35-of-54 (66.7%) from the field and 12-of-20 (60.0%) from beyond the arc.
TTU had six players scoring double-digits . Bryson Williams and Terrence Shannon Jr. combined for 40 points as both players scored 20 points.
Adonis Arms scored 15 points, Kevin McCullar scored 10 points, and Kevin Obanor had 10 points and 11 rebounds.
Davion Warren was also impactful as he scored 10 points off the bench.
“We were hitting threes and making a lot of plays,” said Texas Tech coach Mark Adams. “ We got a bunch of guys and this is our story.”
Coach Adams continued.
“A lot of our guys had a chip on their shoulder coming from smaller schools and other Division l’s and they wanted to come here and make a statement and play on the biggest stage,” he said. “ I love these guys and they played so hard.”
Red Raiders’ Defense
The Red Raiders were all over Montana State on the defensive end.
The Bobcats had 11 turnovers and were held to 25 points in the first half. They were also shooting 8-of-25 (32.0%) from the field and 5-of-12 (41.7%) from deep in the first half.
Montana State finished the game shooting 21-of-55 (38.2%) from the field and 8-of-25 (32.0%) from beyond the arc. They also finished the game with 16 turnovers.
Xavier Bishop was the Bobcats leading scorer this game with 12 points, while shooting 3-of-8 (37.5%) from the field and 2-of-4 (50.0%) from the three-point line.
The Red Raiders filled up the defensive stat sheet with five blocks and six steals.
