In the 1st defense of his IBF lightweight championship, Teofimo Lopez defeated the unified champion, Vasyl Lomachenko by unanimous decision to claim the WBC, WBA, and WBO titles. The judges scored the bout 117-111, 119-109, 117-111. TV Sports scored the bout 116-112. Lopez of Brooklyn, New York, becomes the first undisputed and holder of all four major world titles at lightweight and the youngest at any weight class, age 23, to be an undisputed champion. After the fight, Lopez said he would probably move up in weight to the junior welterweight class (140). Lomachenko, 32 from the Ukraine, was handed only his second professional defeat since losing to Orlando Salido in March of 2014, in only his 2nd pro fight.
