MaCio Teague went off for 35 points in his final regular-season game, leading the No. 3 Baylor University Bears past the No. 18 Texas Tech Red Raiders, 88-73.
Baylor finished off their season with a 21-1 record. They went undefeated at home for the first time in 73 years.
Teague knocked down 10 threes, tying a school record. He led a Baylor squad that shot more than 62% from deep.
Fellow Senior Mark Vital chipped in with a double-double. Juniors Davion Mitchell (17), and Jared Butler (18), rounded out a starting lineup that scored 80 of Baylor’s 88 points. Mitchell and Butler also combined for 12 assists. The duo fell just one dime short of tying Texas Tech’s team assist total of 13.
McClung goes cold
Junior guard Mac McClung scored just 7 points on 3-9 from the field. He usually leads Texas Tech in scoring, averaging 4 more points than the team’s second scorer.
McClung went into the game as the Big 12’s fourth-highest scorer, at 16.4 ppg. Without McClung, Texas Tech turned to Kyler Edwards for much of their offense.
Edwards delivered, putting up 18 on 7-10 from the field. He was the only player on the team to make more than 2 field goals and shoot above 50%.
Baylor takes control late
Though Baylor led for much of the game, Texas Tech stayed within striking distance until late in the second half.
A 16-4 run, ending with just under 3 minutes remaining, put Texas Tech away for good. The run gave Baylor a controlling 22 point lead. Teague hit 2 threes on the run, scoring 8 of the 16 points.
