Tampa Bay Lightning forward Jake Guentzel, a well-known professional hockey player, is excited about his new journey. He was previously drafted in the third round, 77th overall, by the Pittsburgh Penguins in 2013, and has also played for the Carolina Hurricanes.
Guentzel’s Thoughts on Fan Expectations
The press asked Guentzel what fans should expect from him on his performances on the ice.
“Yeah, just, I’m just a really competitive guy. I’m not the biggest guy out there, but I’m going to try and do everything in my power to get to the front of that, go to the hard areas, and make some plays. I like to have fun, like to smile, but I’m just really competitive when it comes to the nature of the game. And that’s just kind of what I’m about. I like to have fun on the ice and when it’s time to bring it, you go.”
Guentzel’s Family and Career Decisions
Another question the media asked Guentzel discussed the circumstances that caused him to move to Tampa Bay from the Carolina Hurricanes, as well as the Tampa Bay captain leaving.
“Yeah, I mean, look, he’s a Hall of Famer. He’s a special player. I have the most respect for the guy. He’s just an unbelievable player in person, from what I’ve heard. So I’m not really sure on what’s going on, or what happened. Hopefully, there’s still a chance he can come back and we can see where it goes. But yeah, I just have a lot of respect for him.”
The Winning Mentality of Tampa Bay
The final question the media had for Guentz asked about Tampa Bay’s other offseason moves and how they reflect the team’s commitment to maintaining a long-term championship window.
“I just think they’re really aggressive. That they want to win, they’re aggressive in their moves they make, they’re trying to do everything they can to win. I feel like that’s when you’re looking from afar about Tampa, you’re always knowing that they’re going to go for it every year. This league’s hard to win. And it’s been tough. It’s tough to get past, first round, second round it’s a hard league to win. And, you’re not going to do it every year. So the opportunity to do it with these guys and, hopefully, the chance to make the playoffs first and then go from there and see what happens after that.”
