Singapore — Round two of the HSBC Women’s World Championship did not disappoint. Jin Young Ko and Amy Kang took charge and are tied for second going into the third round. Brooke Henderson is making her way to the top finishing the second round in a three-way tie for third. With significant leaderboard changes following round two, the golf world is in for a treat going into the third round.
Flawless Ko grabs takes share of first
During the first round, Ko had a streak for consecutive greens in regulation (GIR) come to an end. She hit 63 consecutive GIR which was the longest streak in LPGA and PGA history. On the par-3 4th, Ko missed the green putting an end to the streak. Although the streak came to an end; Ko was able to extend the record from 63 to 66 GIR.
Ko came to play during the second round at Sentosa recording with a 5-under bogey-free round of 67. Her solid performance gave her a share of first with a one-stroke lead going into the third round. The World No. 1 didn’t let Sentosa intimidate her, even when she was faced with getting up and down to save par. On the par-4 9th, Ko was faced with a decent sized par putt to secure a bogey-free front-nine score. She calmly rolled the putt in to stay bogey-free through nine.
Atthaya Thitikul looking for first LPGA win
The 19-year-old earned her card for the 2022 LPGA Tour in December 2021, and she has made her presence known. Atthaya Thitikul shot a 4-under 68 to conclude the second round at Sentosa. She recorded six birdies and two bogeys. On the front-nine, Thitikul recorded four birdies, with three of them being consecutive. Her putter was on fire, and it was obvious that she felt comfortable with the flatstick in her hands today. To secure her three-hole stretch of birdies she rolled in a six-footer with ease on the par-4 6th hole.
Thitikul sits one back from the lead and is 7-under for the tournament. The field is full of major winners this week and it doesn’t seem to phase her one bit.
Henderson one shot behind co-leaders
The Canadian golfer is off to a strong start at the HSBC Women’s World Championship scoring a round one 69 and a round two 68. Henderson recorded five birdies and one bogey, nearly achieving a bogey-free round. She is in a three-way tie for third, just one back from the co-leaders. Henderson has never finished outside of the top 15 at this tournament and hopes to continue that trend, as well as secure her first win of the 2022 LPGA season.
