December 5th marks the return of ‘The Truth’ Errol Spence Jr. (26-0, 21 KOs) to the squared circle, where he will defend his WBC and IBF welterweight titles against the former WBC welterweight champion, Danny ‘Swift’ Garcia (36-2, 21 KOs). This will be Spence’s first fight since a horrific single car accident last October, that nearly cost him his career and life. Coming back from a near death experience, one wouldn’t fault Spence for taking a soft touch, but he felt that he needed a tough foe. “I didn’t want any tune-up fights. I wanted someone who is tough and who could push me to the limit, so I can get back to being Errol Spence Jr.”, he said. Spence further elaborated, “I picked Danny Garcia so that I could rise to the occasion. I’m still the top dog in the division. Fighting Danny will show how great a fighter I am.”
Garcia is really pumped up for this bout and expects to be fighting the best. “We’re taking this fight like Errol is 100%. We’re not banking on anything hindering him. We’re taking this as seriously as possible. We wanted this fight a long time ago, but we just had to stay focused. Now the fight is finally here, and I feel like we’re going to have a great performance.”, he said. Danny believes he has found some holes in Spence’s game that he can exploit, “After the (Mikey) Garcia and(Shawn) Porter fights, I saw some holes in his game and I knew it would be a good opportunity to become champion again. These types of fights bring out the best in Danny Garcia.”
The fight will be taking place in Spence’s backyard at the AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas. Garcia is quite confident in pulling the upset and taking the titles, “On December 5, no stone will be unturned. We’re going to give it 110% and take these titles from him in his hometown.” Spence begs to differ and says, “I can’t wait to give my hometown fans something to cheer for when I defend my title against a great opponent. I’m going to give a great performance and hear ‘and still’ on December 5.”
