LAS VEGAS— — Shakur Stevenson turned in another incredible performance at ‘The Bubble’ in the MGM Grand Las Vegas with his impressive unanimous decision victory over Toka Kahn Clary. Stevenson, 23 fighting at the super featherweight limit for the second time this year, used his ring generalship to dictate the fight’s flow. He was winning every round on the judges’ scorecards with three scores of 100-90. Clary (28-3, 19 KOs), usually considered a counterpuncher, could not find a home in any of his shots. Stevenson, on the other hand, was able to land 121 of his 280 power shots (43%). Where he controlled the fight was through his defense, being able to hold Clary to a staggering 9% connect rate on his punches, according to Compubox (48 of 529). After the fight, Stevenson said he would like the winner Jamel Herring vs. Carl Frampton and then the winner of Miguel Berchelt and Oscar Valdez.
“He knew how to survive. He came in there to survive, and that’s what he did,” Stevenson said. “I want the WBO belt first. The winner of {Carl} Frampton and {Jamel} Herring have to come see me. After that, we want {WBC world champion Miguel} Berchelt.”
Stevenson improved his record to 15-0 with 8 KOs.
