Series Lost but Yankees Redeemed in Game 3 Victory

Date:

Bronx, N.Y. – Following the series loss to the Boston Red Sox, the Tampa Bay Rays were guests in New York for a three-game series against the Yankees. Here’s the rundown:

Shutout in Game 1

Tampa got on the scoreboard in the top of the fourth inning on an RBI single from Isaac Paredes to score David Peralta.

The top of the ninth inning compensated for the zeros on the remaining of the scoreboard. Jose Siri hit an RBI single to score Roman Quinn. In the following at-bat, Yandy Diaz singled sharply to right field to score Taylor Walls and Siri to lead 4-0. The Yankees simply could not respond in the bottom of the ninth, finishing the game shutout.

Action Packed First Inning Sealed the Deal

The Rays came out with extra hot bats, given by Randy Arozarena’s three-run homer to score Diaz and Isaac in the top of the first.

The Yankees were only able to respond in the bottom of the fifth when Miquel Andujar reached on a fielding error to allow Andrew Benintendi to cross home plate.

The final score was 3-1, making this the fifth series game in a row that the Yankees have lost.

A Weather Delay Changed the Game

Rays batters passing time in the rain delay dancing the YMCA.

Game 3 was set to be another loss for the Yankees. Diaz got the show started in the top of the third with his RBI double to left field to score Siri. Diaz repeated his show later in the top of the fifth inning with another RBI double to score Siri and Francisco Mejia to take a 3-0 lead.

To keep the offense going, Harold Ramirez homered to widen the scoring gap, and it was at this point that the Yankees decided that they had enough.

After a 90-minute weather delay after the top of the sixth inning ended, Gleyber Torres’s swift motion yielded a two-run home run, scoring Aaron Judge.

In a bases-loaded moment in the bottom of the seventh, Pete Fairbanks walked Judge, forcing in another run to cut the deficit to 4-3.

A solo home run from Anthony Rizzo in the bottom of the eighth made this a tie game.

It stayed a tie-game until the top of the tenth inning with a base-clearing double from Mejia, breaking the tieto give the Rays a 7-4 advantage.

Fans lost hope until Josh Donaldson pulled the Yankees out of the jaws of defeat with his walk-off grand slam to win the game 8-7.

The Yankees come back to Yankee Stadium to start their series against the Toronto Blue Jay on Thursday, August 18, at 7:05 p.m.
