SEATTLE WASH- The Texas Rangers (6-5) and Seattle Mariners (2-8) opened a three-game series on April 19. The American League West rivals met for their first series against one another of 2022.
Three home runs delivered the offensive fireworks for the Mariners as they defeated the Rangers 6-5.
The Mariners built their lead early in this one as Eugenio Suárez launched a three-run home run in the first inning.
In the second inning, Jarred Kelenic added another run for Seattle with a solo home run off the right field foul pole.
The Rangers chipped away at the Mariners lead with sac fly in the third inning and double in the fifth, both by Marcus Semien.
Leading 4-2 in the seventh inning, Abraham Toro delivered a two-run home run to push the Mariners lead back to four runs.
Robbie’s Seattle Debut
2021 Cy Young Award winner Robbie Ray made his third start for the Mariners. However, this start was special as it was his first one at T-Mobile Park in front of the Seattle fans.
Ray did not disappoint in his first home appearance. Pitching six innings only allowing two runs on four hits. Ray struck out four batters on the night as well. In addition to his excellent stat line, Ray was credited with the win improving him to 2-1 on the season.
Seattle fans gave loud praise and applause to their new ace each time he concluded an inning.
Long Ball Working
The Mariners showed some strength on Tuesday night. The home run was the theme of the game for Seattle.
The Mariners scored all six of their runs over Texas via the home run. Eugenio Suárez picked up his third homer of the year, while Jarred Kelenic recorded his second and Abraham toro his first.
While the home run was the only means of scoring for Seattle, they recorded seven hits as a team.
