
BROOKLYN, NY- Grambling State Tigers quarterback Quaterius Hawkins had a bounce-back game with a 47-21 blowout win against the Northwestern State Devils.
Against the Devils, he threw for 293 passing yards and three touchdowns.
After that performance, he was selected as the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) and the Louisiana Sports Writers Association’s Offensive Player of the Week.
Lyndon Rash, JR Waters, and Chance Williams caught a touchdown pass from Hawkins.
Rash was the leading receiver with two catches for 94 yards, Waters had four catches for 90 yards, and Waters had three receptions for 85 yards.
The GSU Tigers are going to face a hot Jackson State University Tigers (2-0) squad for their second win of the season. It will take place at Mississippi Veterans Memorial Stadium on September 17, 2 pm EST.

A couple of JSU players balled out in week two.
JSU outside linebacker Nyles Gaddy became the SWAC Defensive Player of the Week.
Against the Tennessee State Tigers, he had a career-high 4.0 tackles for a loss, as well as a career-high 3.5 sacks. His performance helped limit the TSU Tigers to just three points throughout the whole game.
SWAC acknowledged Kicker Alejandro Mara as the SWAC Specialist of the Week for his 30, 28, and 27 yard field goals against Tennessee State.
This became the first time since 2014 that a JSU kicker made three field goals in one game.
Finally, SWAC nominated JSU Tigers Sy’veon Wilkerson as the SWAC Newcomer of the Week for his 81 rushing yards on a season-high 15 carries, as well as three receptions for 28 yards.
Jackson State is on a hot start and is hungry for their third consecutive win of the season.
