NORMAN, Okla – The Oklahoma Sooners (16-0) made their long-awaited return to Marita Hynes Field to pick up a victory against the Minnesota Gophers.
The No. 1 Oklahoma Sooners remained undefeated after yet another offensive showing against the Minnesota Gophers 9-1.
Jordy Bahl got the start for Oklahoma, and the impressive freshman had a solid short appearance.
Bahl gave up a run but worked through multiple jams, including one in the third where the bases were loaded. She finished her day after that third inning with one earned run and three strikeouts.
Sophomore Nicole May came in relief of Bahl and put in three strikeouts of her own through two innings.
The Sooners had a three-run second inning to put them up 4-1 and the offense continued to explode from there. The very next inning the Sooners’ offense sparked a four-run inning and put Minnesota away 7-1.
The Gophers have had solid performances against ranked teams such as Georgia who they had two one-run losses against, as well as Arizona State, and Oklahoma State. However, the Sooners have been a different breed this season with seven of their 16 wins finishing with them scoring double-digit runs.
Oklahoma would add another two runs in the fourth inning after a 2-RBI double from Grace Lyons. The Sooners then forced the mercy rule victory after a 1-2-3 fifth inning.
Bahl picked up the win, and pushed her record to 7-0, while Jocelyn Alo is still a home run shy of the all-time record.
SOONER OFFENSE CONTINUES TO DOMINATE
After a weekend where she walked 10 times, Jocelyn Alo was intentionally walked yet again in the second inning. She was walked two more times for a total of three and reached home plate twice.
Two Sooners picked up two hits in this matchup, and Taylon Snow picked up two hits and a walk along with an RBI single in the first inning. Kinzie Hansen was the other Sooner with two hits, the Sooner catcher had a run as well as a solid defense day.
Jana Johns also had a 2-RBI double with a walk to close out her great performance.
Oklahoma finished this game by scoring nine runs off eight hits and picked up eight walks in total.
