Nashville, TN– The Nashville Predators stayed perfect against the Dallas Stars in extra time beating Dallas 3-2.
The Predators started the game strong, but the Stars scored first. John Klingberg sent a fantastic pass to the slot to Roope Hintz who lasered the puck past Juuse Saros. The Predators were extremely physical, hitting everything in sight and trying to get the limited group of fans engaged.
The Predators scored on a ringer off the low post from Ryan Ellis, who rifled it from the blue line. Saros made a good save on Joe Pavelski to keep the game tied.
Yakov Trenin scored three minutes into the second period to bring the Predators in the lead. The Predators did not allow a powerplay goal in all 3 attempts, shutting down the Stars’ offensive plans.
Jamie Oleksiak scored to tie the game at two. Oleksiak started in his own zone, cut through the defense, and roofed it past the glove hand. At the end of the second period, the game was tied at 2. The third period was mostly a defensive show down, with few whistles and back and forth play.
Then, a penalty on Nashville with 5 minutes left, but Saros stayed sharp. After killing the penalty, Roman Josi almost scored, but Anton Khudobin made a fantastic save to send it to overtime.
After a fast-paced overtime, it came down to a shootout. Ryan Johansen scored first. He moved slowly, waiting for Khudobin to bite, and Johansen finished. Saros saved against Jason Robertson. Roman Josi went in wide and rang it off the post. Joe Pavelski followed suit, with the puck glancing off the post. Khudobin shut down Calli Jarnkrok. In the last shot of the shootout, Saros won the game for the Predators by stopping Hintz.
This game marked the fourth time the Predators and Stars have played in overtime or a shootout against each other, and the Predators have won all four. The Predators move to six points above the Stars in the standings with the win.
