CHONBURI, THAILAND — Another low-scoring day of golf during the second round of the Honda LPGA Thailand event. Players experienced stormy weather towards the end of the second round and sat through two rain delays. Although mother nature challenged the players, the players finished strong recording more birdie-filled bogey-free rounds. Despite less-than-ideal playing conditions, there was a two-way tie for first place between Nasa Hataoka and Su Oh following the second round.
Walk-off eagle for Oh
Oh had a brilliant second round after walking into the clubhouse bogey-free for the second day in a row. The rain delay and stormy conditions did not phase her one bit as she dominated Pattaya. She recorded one eagle and five birdies, giving herself a 7-under 65 for the second round. Oh nearly hit every fairway, missing just one. She also hit 15 of 18 greens in regulation, allowing her to record 27 putts through 18 holes. Oh was clutch on her final hole after nearly holing out on her second shot into the par-5 18th.
Although she couldn’t end her round with a walk-off albatross, she was able to secure an eagle, ending the round as a co-leader.
Hataoka making it look easy
The 22-year-old means business this week, as she records back-to-back bogey-free rounds. She rolled in seven birdies during the second round, giving herself 16 total birdies within the first two rounds of the tournament. She was hot with the flat stick once again making testy putts look simple, recording just 26 putts through 18 holes. Just before the rain delay, Hataoka slipped in a birdie putt on the 14th putting her back on top.
Hataoka’s second-round performance allowed her to keep her title as co-leader at 16-under for the tournament. She has a one-stroke lead going into the third round.
Nanna Koerstz Madsen Flawless
Madsen jumped up the leaderboard during round two at Pattaya after recording a bogey-free round of 64. She carded eight birdies, with six of them being within her first nine holes. Every aspect of Madsen’s game seemed to be dialed in, as she striped her irons and rolled her putts in.
On the par-3 8th, she hit a pure iron shot off the tee leaving herself a tap-in birdie putt and a temporary first place spot.
The 27-year-old is searching for her first LPGA Tour win this week in Thailand. She is in a comfortable spot going into moving day tied for thrid and just one back.
