
The MVSU Delta Devils took down Alabama A&M 30-20 as they marched to their first win of the season. MVSU beat the Bulldogs at home on Thursday, November 3. The Delta Devils never trailed in the game, scoring 17 points in the first half and never allowing more than 7 points in a quarter.
A Big Win in a Rough Season
It has been a rough season for the Delta Devils. MVSU started the season 0-8, struggling at home as they lost the first 3 home games. Away games were no better. MVSU struggled to put points on the board, scoring no more than 13 points in a single away game. But, when Alabama A&M came to Itta Bena, Mississippi, the Delta Devils came to play.
MVSU’s defense stepped up big. They allowed 0 third down conversions in the first half and forced a total of 4 turnovers. The offense stepped up as well, rushing for over 200 yards for the third time this season. The offense also took to the air as they scored 3 passing touchdowns.
The Delta Devils have a tough game coming up after their first win of the season. On November 12, MVSU will head down to Baton Rouge, Louisiana, to take on Southern University. Southern comes into their final home game on a two-game losing streak, taking losses against FAMU and Jackson State. MVSU will look to tack on another win as they round out the last 2 games of their season.
MVSU Top Performers
MVSU quarterback Jalani Eason had a great game against the Bulldogs. He put up season-best numbers as he returned from injury. Eason passed for 194 yards and dropped 3 touchdowns in just 16 completions. Eason’s 3 touchdowns were caught by 3 different receivers. His top receiver, Jacory Rankin, caught 6 passes for 83 yards and a touchdown. Eason also led the Delta Devils in rushing, netting 88 yards on the ground.
MVSU had a field day on the ground. The Delta Devils had 42 rushing attempts, 9 of which were by their quarterback. Jared Wilson led the MVSU running backs with 54 yards on 9 rushing attempts. MVSU pushed the running game hard as they reached over 200 rushing yards for only the third time this season.

MVSU’s defense was also going strong. As a team, they forced 4 turnovers in the form of a pair of fumbles and inceptions. Linebacker Jayron Fox forced his first career fumble. Fox also set a new personal best with 13 takedowns as well as 2 tackles for a loss. Defensive back Jamison Lindsey also had a fantastic game when he broke up 2 passes and a pair of interceptions, the first of his career. The Delta Devils will need all of that production and more on defense as they look forward to taking on Southern.
