WASHINGTON, D.C. – The New York Mets and Washington Nationals began a three-game series in the nation’s capital. The Mets have not lost a series yet this season – – winning eight and splitting one.
With Carlos Carrasco on the mound for them, they picked up the 4-2 win.
It was a pitcher’s duel as Carrasco, and Patrick Corbin was neck and neck. That was until the fourth inning when the Nationals would get on the board first. Maikel Franco would hit a double to center field to bring in Josh Bell for the night’s first run. Mets’ centerfielder, Brandon Nimmo, would prevent another run from scoring as he threw out Yadiel Hernández at home.
Riley Adams would homer to left field in the next inning to extend the lead to 2-0.
With Corbin done for the night after five innings, the bats came alive for the Mets in the sixth.
With the bases loaded, Jeff McNeil would come to bat and get himself a double to bring Pete Alonso and J.D. Davis home to tie the game at 2-2. The next batter would be James McCann. His sacrifice fly would bring Eduardo Escobar home to gain the 3-2 lead.
Davis would sneak in another run in the ninth inning as a sacrifice fly by him would bring home Mark Canha to make it 4-2.
Carrasco had another strong performance after pitching eight scoreless innings in his last start. His night ended pitching 6 2/3 innings, allowing seven hits, two runs, and striking out five.
Edwards Jr. Struggles
Corbin’s night was over after five. Allowing three hits, no runs and striking out five batters.
Washington would hand the ball over to Carl Edwards Jr. In the sixth, Edwards allowed three runs on three hits and struck out two batters. His night ended pitching one inning for his club.
