Mavericks Rally for a Late Comeback, Beating the Lakers 108-93

Date:

The Los Angeles Lakers faced yet another loss on Saturday night when visiting the Dallas Mavericks. The Lakers have now lost 3-straight games. Although the Lakers lost this matchup, they held the lead for most of the game. The Mavericks made a major comeback in the fourth quarter, adding another game to their win streak. After picking up this win against the Lakers, the Mavericks are now 16-14 at home,

The Lakers Shorthanded

The Star player for the Lakers, Lebron James, has no missed 18 games due to an ankle injury. The team, being without Lebron, has not made it easy for them to pick up wins. Along with Lebron being injured, the Lakers have had multiple other players facing injuries. Another player who has out due to an ankle injury was Kentavious Caldwell-Pope. Caldwell-Pope scored his season-high 29 points against the Lakers’ first loss to the Mavericks. Being shorthanded has called for Anthony Davis to step up.

This matchup was only Anthony Davis’ second game back after a long injury. Davis did the best he could to help lead the Lakers team to a win but fell short. In just the first 13 minutes, Davis put up 12 points for the Lakers team. By the end of the matchup, Davis had 17 points, 3 rebounds, and 3 assists. This was considered a low-scoring night for Davis, as he went 0-6 from the three-point line.

Powell Scores Season-High 25 Points

With the Lakers locking down on Luka Doncic, this called for the Mavericks to have someone else be the high scorer. For the Mavericks, this was Dwight Powell. Doncic made sure to dish out terrific passes to Powell, helping him to make easy baskets. Doncic himself finished with 18 points, 13 assists, and 8 rebounds. Had Doncic made two more rebounds, he would have picked up another triple-double. This Saturday matchup was not all about the Mavericks all-star, as Powell stayed locked in.

Powell had a slow start, making only 4 points after the second quarter. It was after the second quarter that things started to pick up for both Powell and the Mavericks. The Mavericks outscored the Lakers in the third quarter by 12 points. In the fourth quarter, the Mavericks outscored the Lakers by 15 points. At the end of the matchup, Powell had managed to score 25 points, along with 9 rebounds and 1 assist.
