Los Angeles, CA- Lightweight prospect, Frank ‘The Ghost’ Martin put on quite the performance Tuesday night. Using a combination of hand speed and body punching, he took home a seventh-round TKO victory over fellow unbeaten prospect Jerry ‘The Joker’ Perez, in the main event of PBC on Fox Sports card.
The 26-year-old southpaw from Indianapolis, Martin collected the thirteenth victory of his professional career and the tenth by knockout. The all of rounds saw, Martin outwork Perez and effectively use his jab to set up hooks to the body and head.
California’s Perez (13-1, 10 KOs) did have a little success in the third and fourth rounds by getting to Martin’s body and getting in a few uppercuts also. Martin was able to avoid getting trapped in the corners and ropes by Perez, by constantly spinning out of danger.
With about 45 seconds left in the seventh-round, Martin doubled up on his jab and hit Perez with a powerful left to the jaw, knocking him down. Perez was out and got up by referee Jerry Cantu’s count of nine. Cantu had Perez walk over to him twice to make sure he was good to continue. Martin then went on the attack, and Perez attempted to clinch and fell in the process. Upon Perez getting back up, Martin went back on the attack again. This time Cantu felt like Perez had taken enough punishment and waved it off with 1-second left in the round.
“I saw the shot coming the round before,” said Martin referring to the sixth-round. “I was going to the left looking for it, but I couldn’t find the right distance. In the next round, Derrick (trainer Derrick James) told me he was leaning and that helped me find the distance to land it.”. Martin almost doubled Perez’s punch output throwing 405 to Perez’s 222 and landed more twice as many (100 to 47).
As for what’s next, Martin said, “This win is a big blessing. I’m just going to stay humble and keep moving forward and getting better.”
