RANCHO MIRAGE, Calif. — Round three at the Chevron Championship proved to be a challenging day for the field. A significant number of bogeys were recorded making it easy for the leader to capitalize on her strong play. Jennifer Kupcho is looking for her first LPGA win and is well on her way after dominating the field during round three.
Kupcho Leads By Six
The rookie is making her mark at Mission Hills, showing her competition no mercy. Kupcho had a decent second round but dropped down a few spots following round two. She took advantage of moving day and shot up the leaderboard after recording nine birdies and just one bogey. She brimmed with confidence as every aspect of her game was strong. Kupcho his 13/14 (.928) fairways and 15/18 (.833) greens in regulation. In addition, she had 2/2 (.100) sand saves and ended the round with just 25 putts. Going into the final round, Kupcho has a six-stroke lead following he 8-under 64. She is 16-under total for the weekend so far.
Defending Champ Trails
Patty Tavatanakit has played three solid rounds at Mission Hills but still trails the leader significantly going into the fourth round. She recorded six birdies and four bogeys to walk into the clubhouse at 2-under for the third round. Tavatanakit hit 8/14 (.571) fairways and 11/18 (.611) greens in regulation. The defending champ has some work to do during the final round as she trails Kupcho by six-strokes. She is 10-under for the tournament so far.
Jessica Korda Making A Move
The 29-year-old climbed the leaderboard during the third round putting herself within seven strokes of the lead. Jessica Korda shot a 5-under 67, giving herself a solo third place spot. She rolled in six birdies and just one bogey in her outing. In addition, she was long off the tee averaging 315-yards per drive, hitting 10/14 fairways (.714). Korda is in a great spot to finish the Chevron Championship in the top 10, if not above that.
