BROOKLYN, NY- Grambling State University’s (1-2) outside hitter Jayden James had a great first three games for the Tigers as the Southwestern Athletic Conference announced that she was the offensive player of the week.

James has also had 17 digs for the Tigers so far. Her most impressive game came against the Southern Illinois Salukis, where she had 15 kills in 29 attempts (41%), four serve assists, one block assist and one triple block in a 3-1 win.

GSU is looking forward to bouncing back in the next few games against the North Alabama Lions, the New Orleans Privateers and the Lamar University Cardinals in the University of North Alabama (UNA) Volleyball Classic.

It will be interesting to see if she can continue with her production as the season goes on, but it is definitely a spectacle to see her have a strong start to the season.

There were also some other players that were recognized in week one. The SWAC nominated Alabama State Hornets Temperance as the defensive player of the week.

The Hornets libero/defensive specialist had 56 digs in four games.

Meanwhile, the Jackson State Tigers’ Damassy Thompson won setter of the week, and the Prairie View A&M Panthers’ Kylee Owens was nominated as the newcomer of the week.
