Super Bowl LVII will be played this Sunday from Arizona; Pat Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs will take on Jalen Hurts and the Philadelphia Eagles.
This Sunday is the most bittersweet day of the year for me. The Super Bowl brings an end to football season, which no one likes, but the Super Bowl is also the biggest game of the year and often delivers fantastic games.
There is so much excitement around this year’s Super Bowl. Chiefs’ head coach Andy Reid will be coaching against his former team. Brothers Jason and Travis Kelce will be going against one another. This Super Bowl will also make history as it will be the first iteration of the big game in which both teams start a black quarterback.
Since the big game’s matchup was set almost two weeks ago, I’ve had plenty of people asking me who I think will win the big game. If this was college football, I would have an answer for everyone. (Humble brag, I went 41-21 on college football picks this year on the Dylan and Dylan Show.) But this is the NFL, and personally, I think it is a lot harder to pick the winner of an NFL game. So, as I have in the past, I decided to look to my favorite experts: the fourth and fifth graders at South Livingston Elementary. I sent them a simple survey asking for their help, so I could see what their thoughts are heading into the big game. Like before, I did not provide any details about the game; I just asked who they thought would win the Super Bowl.

A Football Team– I think they go by the Commanders now. Jokes aside, this kid might have the right idea a football team will likely win the Super Bowl on Sunday. (I mean, football teams have won the last 56 Super Bowls.)
The Celtics- I love the duo of Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown, one of the truly great young duos in American sports. Unfortunately, they play basketball, and Brown is injured. The Celtics could walk away with the Larry O’Brien Trophy this summer, though.
The Bulls- Another basketball team, but this basketball team is not nearly as good as the other. The Bulls are going to have a hard time making the playoffs in the Eastern Conference, but who knows a change of sport might benefit a franchise that has struggled since Michael Jordan retired.
Murray State, Man- These kids know I am a proud Murray State alum, and I respect the attempt to get brownie points. It’s either that or this was the answer by Leo from That ‘70s Show. That would raise so many other questions, though.
I love my Racers, but they went 2-9 this year and belong nowhere near a Super Bowl conversation.

Sponge Bob- At first glance, this might be an out-there answer, but I get it. I think everyone under a certain age associates the big game with Sponge Bob, but they associate the game with good ‘ole SB because of his iconic halftime show.
Big Blues- The St. Louis Blues? The genre of music? Big Blue Nation? Blue’s Clues? Blue Man Group? Twitter Blue? Bluetooth?
The Bears- A football team! When you look up electric in the dictionary a video of Justin Fields playing football should be beside it. Unfortunately, the Bears were the worst team in the NFL this season, but the future looks bright!
The Miami Dolphins- The Dolphins became a fun team kind of out of nowhere, huh? Head coach Mike McDaniel is such a breath of fresh air for the NFL. The Dolphins’ season was hurt by injuries, but it looks like they could be a problem in the AFC for years to come.
The Cowboys- I picked the Cowboys to win the Super Bowl back in August, so I get it. The roster Jerry Jones and Co. have assembled down in Dallas is littered with talent, but they were unable to make it back to the Super Bowl. I’m an adult, and I don’t remember the hay day of the Cowboys; for these kids, it must seem like an urban legend.
Bengals- The Bengals have no doubt become one of the cooler teams in the NFL. Kids naturally gravitate toward cool teams; it’s hard not to root for guys like Joe Burrow and Ja’Marr Chase. The Bengals were so close to returning to the Super Bowl but fell short to the Kansas City Chiefs in the AFC Championship.
The Winning Team- This kid gets it. This is a surefire way of being right. The winning team will win the game. I think the old saying goes, “work smarter, not harder.”

Billy Bob Joes- The fighting Billy Bob Joes got two votes to win the Super Bowl. I respect it. I am unaware of Billy Bob Joe, but I do know Billy Bob Thorton. Billy Bob Thorton was awesome in Friday Night Lights. If either team needs motivation before the big game, they can look no further than BBT’s halftime speech. Chills every single time.
Iowa Hawkeyes- I did a double take when I read the Iowa Hawkeyes; I thought I was going crazy when I read it the second time. Iowa won the Music City Bowl, and their defense is incredible, but that offense and the word Super don’t belong in the same paragraph.
The Chefs- I recently wanted the movie The Menu, and while I hope these kids haven’t seen that movie, I also have a new fear and respect for chefs.

The Kansas City Chiefs- Here we go, a respectable amount of votes for one of the teams actually playing in the game this Sunday. I think if I was in fourth or fifth grade in 2023, I would be a bandwagon Chiefs fan. Patrick Mahomes is the best player in the NFL and makes mind-blowing highlights every game. Then you have Travis Kelce, who could go down as one of the best tight ends in NFL history. Beyond the two absolute superstars, the Chiefs are just a really fun team with a high-powered offense, and they just win.
The Chiefs have a chance to enter dynasty talk if they win the Super Bowl on Sunday, their second in the Mahomes-Reid era. It’s fully understandable why these 12 kids want to ride with KC on Sunday.

The Philadelphia Eagles- The overwhelming favorite of these fourth and fifth graders is the Philadelphia Eagles. It seems as if they will be chanting “E-A-G-L-E-S” on Sunday and singing “Fly Eagles Fly.”
The Eagles have been fantastic all year as they dominated their schedule, losing just one game with Jalen Hurts at quarterback. The Birds will look to continue their dominant playoff run in which they pummeled the New York Giants and San Francisco 49ers in previous rounds. The Eagles have so many playmakers; Hurts, Devonta Smith, AJ Brown, Miles Sanders, Boston Scott, and the list goes on and on. Their playmakers are paid with great line play on both sides of the ball. This team is incredible, and it’s easy to see why these kids think they will win the Super Bowl.
