Milwaukee, WI – Giannis Antetokounmpo’s Milwaukee Bucks (2-0) hosted the Brooklyn Nets (1-2) at the Fiserv Forum Wednesday night.
The two superstars, Antetokounmpo and Kevin Durant, had fans at home watching in awe at the offensive display they were putting on all game long. Antetokounmpo prevailed with the win, finishing with 43 points and 14 rebounds. Durant finished with 33 points, but it wasn’t enough against the Bucks, as the Nets fell 110-99.
Nets Dominate 2nd Quarter
The two juggernaut squads started off particularly slow offensively, shooting just over 30% as the Bucks led by 5 at the end of the first quarter.
However, it was the Nets that dominated the second quarter, convincingly outscoring the Bucks by 17 in the period, and their efficient shooting from deep shooting 6-for-11 had the Nets up 55-43 at the half.
Giannis Takes Over, Nash Ejection
In the second half, the Bucks led by 4 in a chippy ball game middle of the third quarter. The Nets head coach Steve Nash was frustrated over a no-call on Antetokounmpo. He would then pick up a technical foul. Nash would eventually be ejected from the game moments later after picking up his second technical foul. This would be Nash’s first ejection in his head coaching career.
The Bucks led 78-76 after a huge quarter of their own, outscoring the Nets by 14. The Nets struggled getting going offensively in the second half scoring just 44 points in the second half to the Bucks 67 points.
Bobby Portis added 20 points off the bench, and Jrue Holiday had 15 points of his own and key defensive stops on by the Bucks big man Brook Lopez who finished with six blocks.
The momentum shifted in the Bucks favor after Nash’s ejection as the offense just didn’t look the same. Kyrie Irving finished with 27 points and 9 rebounds, and Ben Simmons continues his quiet start to the season as he had just 4 points in the game. Durant did all he could to keep them in the game, but Nets could not withstand Antetokounmpo’s onslaught.
