Syracuse, NY – Sean Tucker is a sophomore running back for Syracuse University and what he can do on a football field is special. However, his words off the field encapsulate the internet world just as much as his electric runs do.
Who is Sean Tucker?
Tucker is a former three-star recruit from Towson, Maryland, who joined the Syracuse Orange program in the 2020 season.
Tucker had an above-average true freshman year with the Orange gaining 626 yards and eight touchdowns in nine games during his 2020 campaign. While this was a good start to his career, the 2021 college football season is when Tucker had his rise to fame.
Breakout Season
During the 2021 season, Tucker was a flat-out college football star. Tucker shattered Syracuse’s single-season rushing record with 1,496 yards. Tucker finished fourth among all Division one FBS players in total rushing yards.
He set the Syracuse record for most consecutive games with 100 yards with seven.
Tucker also found the end zone 12 times during this season and was a bright spot on an underachieving 5-7 Syracuse football team. He put up an incredible sophomore campaign and received multiple off-season honors for his outstanding performance.
An Internet Sensation
Tucker and Duke University’s Mataeo Durant are the two running backs to receive the first team of all ACC honors last season. Durant currently plays for the Pittsburgh Steelers and Tucker, who is still a college athlete, has 17 thousand more followers on Twitter than Durant.
The follower disparity between the two is not because of how often they use the app, as Tucker has only tweeted 208 times, four less than Durant.
So what is the difference that causes Tucker to have one of the most followed accounts in college football? Tucker is, to my knowledge, the only player who posts a review of his team and his performance after every single game he has played.
This tradition began for Tucker dating back to his first college game, and as the tweet above displays, it is still actively going on.
Pleased or Not Pleased
Tucker’s reviews of his game’s caused him to become an internet sensation. Tucker even has his catchphrase #PL34SED, which is the indicator of how he feels about his performance.
Whether or not Tucker is pleased has created the birth of multiple different memes surrounding the player’s tweets even including a personal account that tracks whether or not Tucker is pleased.
Tucker has legendary tweets over his time at Syracuse. It was not easy to narrow it down, but below are my rankings of his top 5 greatest tweets.
#5 The Original
Everyone loves a great origin story, and this was the tweet that started it all. This was Sean’s first tweet to receive over 1,000 likes. This also was the game Tucker became the only player in school history with over 100 yards rushing and receiving in a game.
#4 A Massive Plot Twist
This was the first game that Tucker was not pleased with the game or the outcome. After a big loss, it would have been easy for Tucker not to tweet, but he still followed through and let the world know his disappointment.
#3 Tucker’s Greatest Hit
Reaching over 5,400 likes, this is easily Tucker’s most popular tweet. Whether it was the monster 207 yards and a touchdown, or the fact that it was Halloween, people could not get enough of this tweet. However, this ranks at number three because this is my list, not the internet.
#2 Teammates Are Pleased
Another massive plot twist, this time it was Sean’s teammates who were pleased with his performance. Everyone likes to be appreciated, so seeing Sean’s teammates being pleased as opposed to him made me happy, and I’m sure Sean was happy too.
#1 The Constant Perfectionist
This was the first Sean Tucker tweet I ever saw, and he has yet to top it. Tucker had a monster game, finishing with 182 yards and three touchdowns. While he was pleased with his performance, he was still not happy.
Most athletes would be happy with a stat line like that, however, Tucker is not like most athletes and this tweet confirms it.
Tucker and the Orange will be back in action November 12th at 6 p.m. PST to face #25 ranked Florida State
