Flint United Excited for Inaugural Season

There is a new professional basketball team in Flint, Michigan: Flint United. They will compete in The Basketball League (TBL). They wrapped up their first training camp in March.

Flint United will open their inaugural season with a road game against the Kokomo Bobcats on April 9th at 7 p.m. The team’s first home game will be against Indy Express at Flint’s Dort Financial Center on Friday, April 16th.

Kevin Mays, a Flint native, is the founder of the team. Mays also serves as Team Market Owner and President of Flint United. 

“We are very pleased with the work that our players and coaching staff have done in training camp,” said Mays. “We are excited to introduce our team to the fans and tip-off our first season.” 

Flint Untied is led by head coach Charlie Bell. Bell is a Flint native who won a national championship with Michigan State in 2000. He also played in the NBA for 12 years with the Phoenix Suns, the Dallas Mavericks, the Milwaukee Bucks, and the Golden State Warriors. Bell coaching experience comes from his time as an assistant with NBA’s G-League organizations, the Texas Legends and the Iowa Wolves.

“I’m excited about the opportunity to have my first head coaching job here in Flint, where I grew up and I know how special and deep the passion for basketball is for the city.” Bell said. 

TBL games are streamed via TBLTV, the league’s streaming service. The streaming service can be accessed at Flint United’s website www.flintunited.net.
