Flawless In Gee Chun Earns Lead After Round Three

Date:

SINGAPORE — Another day, another leaderboard change at the HSBC Women’s World Championship. After slow starts to their week, In Gee Chun and Jeongeun Lee raced up the leaderboard after recording low third-round scores. Jin Young Ko is just one stroke back, and Danielle Kang is just a couple back going into the final round at Sentosa.

Flawless Chun takes the lead

The three-time LPGA Tour winner recorded a bogey-free round during the third round. She recorded six birdies for a 6-under 66, giving herself a one-stroke lead going into the fourth round. Chun started the tournament shooting a 2-under 70 and has gained a significant number of strokes since then. Chun took advantage of Sentosa’s receptive greens and was able to stick it close a few times. On the par-4 10th, she hit a beautiful second shot into the green giving herself a short birdie putt.

Chun is in a great spot heading into the fourth round with a one-stroke lead. Chun has won three LPGA tournaments and is looking for her first win of the 2022 season.

Lee With Impressive Showing

The 33-year-old raced up the leaderboard during the third round, shooting a 7-under 65. She recorded one eagle, seven birdies, and two bogeys, putting her one stroke behind going into the final round. Everything seemed to come together for Lee during the third round and it showed, especially on her front-nine where she rolled in four consecutive birdies. To secure her fourth consecutive birdie, Lee hit a fantastic shot into the par-3 7th, leaving herself a short birdie putt.

That wasn’t the end for her though — she wanted more. On the par-5 13th, Lee gave herself an attackable third shot for eagle just off the green. She chipped it onto the green and it rolled in for eagle.

After a day full of beautiful swings, Lee ended the round with a long birdie putt to secure her a second-place spot going into the final day.

World No. 1 One Is Back

Ko has played a solid three rounds at Sentosa. She has been staying close to the leader making sure she doesn’t lose too many strokes during the rounds. Ko shot a 3-under 69 during the third round, carding four birdies and just one bogey. Although she had a few missed opportunities, she did what she need to do on moving day and stayed within one stroke of the leader. She had clutch moments when she needed to, especially after sinking in this monster birdie putt to put pressure on the leader.

Ko is World No. 1 for a reason and is in striking distance going into the fourth round at Sentosa.
