BROOKLYN, NY — Spencer Dinwiddie came alive in the fourth quarter as he led the Dallas Mavericks (43-26) to a 113-111 comeback win against the Brooklyn Nets (36-34).
The Brooklyn Nets were looking to extend their winning streak to five games, however Dallas ruined that.
The first half looked promising for the Nets as a short-handed Brooklyn squad scored 61 points in the first half. However, the Mavericks only trailed by three points entering halftime.
The Nets kicked things up from the start of the third quarter thanks to Kevin Durant. At the 7:34 mark in the third quarter, Durant led a 14-2 run to give the Nets a 12-point lead over Dallas. He also had six assists within the third quarter.
The Mavericks didn’t give up as they opened the fourth quarter with a 17-4 run to cut Brooklyn’s lead to one point.
In the final 30 seconds of regulation, Luka Doncic made a contested midrange shot to give Dallas the lead. However, Durant responded with a 3-pointer to retake the lead.
The Mavericks had the final say as Dinwiddie made the game winning 3-pointer to secure the win for Dallas.
Dinwiddie scored 15 points in the fourth quarter and celebrated with his team after the buzzer beater. He finished the game with 22 points.
“I know it was big time,” Dinwiddie said. “We were down by 12 and we fought back. All credit to the team, to Luka, to all of the guys.”
Doncic was the Mavericks leading scorer with 37 points and eight rebounds.
Nets Were Short
The Nets almost did everything right but just fell short of the win.
Durant was the Nets leading scorer with 23 points, 10 assists, and six rebounds, while shooting 8-of-20 (40.0%) from the field. Goran Dragic was the Nets second leading scorer with 21 points.
The Nets as a whole shot 45-of-91 (49.5%) from the field and 9-of-26 (34.6%) from deep. They also outrebounded the Mavericks as they had 45 rebounds compared to Dallas’s 37 rebounds.
However, that fourth quarter was their downfall as they were held to 20 points.
