
The Motor City Cruise had the opportunity to even the season series with the Wisconsin Herd on Tuesday night. The Cruise would get off to a great start in this one but would be unable to contain the hot shooting of the Herd.
Coming Out Hot
Motor City flip the script early in this one by getting off to a great start of their own. This one would go back and forth until about midway through the first quarter when the Cruise built their biggest lead of the night at 16-10. Things would go back and forth before Motor City put together a 9-2 scoring run in the last 3:00 of the quarter to take a 30-22 lead heading into the second quarter. Stanley Umude, Devontae Cacock, and Buddy Boeheim scored all of the Cruise points in the quarter.
The second quarter would be tight throughout. Both teams had short scoring runs early on in the quarter, but neither team would put much distance between themselves. It would be the Herd who had the last laugh heading into the half. Wisconsin would put together a 20-11 scoring run from about the 5:00 minute mark of the quarter to take a 63-62 lead heading into the break. Boeheim had yet another great quarter for the Cruise and finished with 17 points in the half. Lindell Wigginton would have a big quarter for the Herd, finishing the half with 14 points for the hometown Herd.
Hard To Contain
Wisconsin would really stay hot in this one to begin the half. They would start on a 10-2 scoring run that would give Motor City their biggest deficit of the night, 64-73. After three, the Cruise would have some battling to do in the final quarter as they would be down 87-105. Umude paced Motor City with 7 points in the third. Wisconsin was able to stay balanced in the quarter, which helped them build their lead.
Much of the final quarter would go back and forth. The Cruise would do their scoring but couldn’t slow the hot shooting of the Herd. Wisconsin would go on to take this one, 137-112. Jules Bernard helped out with 7 points in the final twelve minutes. Elijah Hughes continued his torrid half with another 7 points in the fourth.
The Numbers
Stanley Umude led the way for the Cruise in this one. He put together his best performance with Motor City by putting up 30 points on 11 of 20 shooting for the good guys and adding 8 rebounds to his effort. Buddy Boeheim finished with 18 points off the bench. Devontae Cacok put together a nice night in extended minutes with 17 points and 10 rebounds. Jules Bernard finished the night with 16 points and 2 steals. Braxton Key did not play in this one.
Wisconsin really imposed their will on the glass on the night by winning the rebounding battle, 58-42. Lindell Wigginton led the way for the home team with 24 points on 10 of 17 shooting. He pitched in 6 assists as well. Elijah Hughes had a big second half and finished with 22 points and 6 rebounds. Sandro Mamukelashvili showed what he could do as the big man for the Herd came up with a near triple-double on the night. Jordan Bones finished with 17 points and 8 assists. Iowa grad Joe Weiskamp put up a double-double for Wisconsin. Ibou Badji, Rob Edwards, Jontay Porter, and Alex Antetokounmpo rounded out the scoring as nearly everyone got involved for the Herd.
Next Up
Wisconsin now moves to 3-3 on the season. The Cruise move to 1-4 but they have a chance to bounce back on Thursday night when they take on the Herd again. They’ll have home court this time as when they welcome in Wisconsin for a 7:00 showdown this Thursday night.
