Coming Full Circle To The Chiefs

Date:

Kansas City, MO. – Matt Nagy, a familiar face, has joined the Chiefs coaching staff once again. Previously an offensive coordinator two years before the 2020 Super Bowl, Nagy now comes back to become the Senior Offensive Assistant and Quarterbacks Coach.

Look Who’s Back

Fans remember the years of Nagy coaching the Chiefs. During camp on Tuesday, Nagy had the chance to go around signing autographs for the Chief’s faithful.

“It doesn’t surprise me, they’re very passionate, they love their football”, said Nagy.

Nagy left the Chiefs to take a head coaching position with the Chicago Bears right before the Chiefs’ name spread across the world. While there were positive high notes before the Super Bowl appearances, Nagy comes back to lead an explosive offense where he left off.

Nagy explained that watching the Chiefs become a powerhouse from a distance was a source of pride and joy.

“I wouldn’t change anything of those four years [of] experiences,” Nagy explained. “I’d change a lot of what happened, wishing we won more and could’ve done more but I learned a lot and that part I wouldn’t change”.

Nagy goes there knowing there is room for improvement, ready to pick up where he left off.

Coaching a Superstar

A lot can change in four years. A pandemic can change the world, a young student can graduate college, or a rookie quarterback can turn into a future Hall of Famer like for the Chiefs.

“When you walk into the room for the first time and see [Patrick Mahomes] in a meeting room and he’s having four different conversations, three of them are football, one’s off to the side on something else, you see his growth, his leadership,” added Nagy. “Mahomes is a rare bread where in four years someone can turn from nothing into a Super Bowl MVP.”

Putting Ego Aside

On Saturday, Nagy will go up against his former team, the Chicago Bears, for the first time since he was fired.

“It’s my professional job to make sure I step back and make sure it’s about we and not me,” said Nagy about dealing with the emotional side of seeing his former team again on the opposite side of the field.
