QUEENS, N.Y. – On Tuesday, the New York Mets and Atlanta Braves had a doubleheader to play at Citi Field. In game one, the Mets took a 5-4 win against the Braves.
In game two, the Mets would bring their momentum over from game one as they took a 3-0 win against the Braves for the doubleheader sweep.
During the nightcap, the Mets didn’t waste any time.
With Jeff McNeil and Brandon Nimmo on base in the first inning, Dominic Smith would come up to bat. His bat has been hot, and it continued to be Tuesday night. A two-run double by Smith would bring McNeil and Nimmo home for an early 2-0 lead in the first.
Pete Alonso would join the party as a solo shot to right field would extend the Mets lead to 3-0 in the bottom of the sixth inning.
Mets’ batters would get nine hits against Braves pitching.
No No No! Not Tonight
After allowing eight runs against the St Louis Cardinals in his last start, Carlos Carrasco came into tonight’s game with a chip on his shoulder as he was looking to bounce back. Safe to say, he did just that.
Carrasco’s night ended pitching eight scoreless innings, striking out five while throwing 96 pitches.
Throughout the night, the Braves found ways to get batters on base. However, Carrasco held Atlanta to 0-for-11 with runners in scoring position.
Seth Lugo would come in for the save in the ninth, allowing just one hit.
Up Next
The series finale is tomorrow at 1:10 p.m. as Ian Anderson gets the ball for Atlanta. Anderson pitched six innings in his last outing against the Texas Rangers, allowing three hits, two runs to score, and five strikeouts.
The Mets will have Tyler Megill on the mound as they look for the series win. In his last outing against the Philadelphia Phillies, Megill pitched five scoreless innings and struck out five.
