Boston, Ma. – A 6-5 walk-off win snapped the Boston Red Sox’s four-game losing streak as they took the third of a four-game series against their most famous rival, the New York Yankees. Going back and forth between taking a lead and taking a deficit, this was a come-from-behind victory for the Red Sox.
Boston Showed Its Teeth
Boston was the first to leave their mark on the scoreboard in the bottom of the second inning with Bobby Dalbec’s RBI single bringing Xander Bogaerts across home plate.
Top of the fifth, catcher Kevin Plawecki showed Fenway Park how clutch he was when he caught Kyle Higoshioka stealing second base, ending the Yankee’s 16 stolen bases streak.
Middle-to-Late Inning Comeback
Aaron Hicks hit a solo homer to make it a tie game in the top of the fifth.
Gleyber Torres bolted for home off Anthony Rizzo’s RBI double, taking the lead in the top of the sixth. Josh Donaldson proved to be the gift that keeps on giving with his RBI single to score Rizzo, doubling the lead to 3-1. Rob Refsnyder responded to the Yankees’ unanswered runs with a home run off the first pitch he saw in the bottom of the sixth inning.

Taking a page from the Yankees’ book, Alex Verdugo hit a missile to land an RBI single to bring in Jeter Downs to tie the game at three.
Late Inning Pitching Battle
Answering, the Yankees played a two-front ballgame: striking out Red Sox batters in 1-2-3 innings and hitting an above-average amount of foul balls from the mound, really making Boston pitchers work for their Ks.
Clapping back, Red Sox pitcher Tanner Houck had a 1-2-3 eighth inning, most impressively striking out Giancarlo Stanton with only three pitches. Both teams had 1-2-3 innings in the ninth without any mistakes, moving the game on to extra innings.
Breaking the Stalemate
Famous for late-inning surges, after going 0-for-3 in yesterday’s game and 1-for-4 before his tenth inning at-bat, Aaron Judge launched a rocket into center field for an RBI double to score pinch runner Jose Trevino, breaking the tie. Following the lineup, Rizzo gave his second RBI double of the night to score Judge, doubling the lead to 5-3. Boston answered with Downs’ RBI single to score Jarren Duran. With runners on base, Verdugo took this opportunity to single a line drive to right field to bring Refsnyder and Downs across the home plate to walk it off 6-5.

The Yankees come back to Fenway Park in Boston, Ma. for one final game in their series tomorrow, on Sunday, July 10. The first pitch is scheduled for 7:08 pm.
