In their first series back after the all-star break, the Yankees continue to derail losing to the Colorado Rockies 8-7 in the rubber game. With many different areas of the team that seem to fall apart, the bullpen started to make its crumble in this game.

“It’s a tough one,” said Aaron Boone. “We did a good job of getting back into it and putting a couple of runs on the board there but we just couldn’t finish it off today. And thats part of it, you’re gonna have gut wrenching losses and difficult times in the season. We gotta get through it, get on that plane and get ready to go in anaheim.”

New York started the series with a Friday night loss 7-2 with Carlos Rodon’s second start on the mound. However, they bounced back on Saturday night 6-3 with a stellar performance from Clarke Schmidt setting up the Sunday rubber game. Cole took the mound looking to push his team to a series win.

Cole started off the game by surrendering a solo home run to Michael Toglia putting Colorado on the board first 1-0.

But after the bump in the road, Cole coasted the rest of the game exiting with eleven strikeouts, two hits and one run in 6.0 innings pitched. While doing so he also had his 24th game with 10 or more strikeouts becoming the pitcher with the most in franchise history.

The yanks offense took control in the sixth with an Isiah Kiner-Falefa single up the middle scoring two to over take the rockies 2-1. Anthony Volpe added to the scoring with a ground out letting Kiner-Falefa score in a 3-1 game.

Bullpen Troubles

However in the eighth inning, the rockies threatened with the bases loaded. C.J. Cron belted a laser over the head of Harrison Bader for a Grand Slam and a 5-3 lead late in the game.

But the bombers continued to bounce back in the ninth with a single from Gleyber Torres and sacrifice fly from Bader tying the game back at 5 a piece and heading into extras.

Still tied at 5 in the eleventh, New York sparked for two go ahead runs contributed from a single by Oswaldo Cabrera and Oswald Peraza to finally put the Bombers ahead of the Rockies 7-5. But that lead didn’t last long with the second pitch of the at-bat from Nick Ramirez, Nolan Jones clobbered a two run blast tying the game at 7. Then finally putting the nail in the coffin with a walk-off homerun by Alan Trejo sending the Yankees to anaheim with another loss in the column 8-7.

The Yankees now sit at the bottom of the AL East tied for last place with the Boston Red Soxs with a 50-44 record.
