Austin, Texas – The Big 12 Conference has provided plenty of excitement this season; Baylor’s last game against Kansas was proof of that as the Bears erased a large deficit to win by double-digits.
Austin is always a tough environment to play in, but the Bears handled the pressure and found a way to win as Baylor (25-5, 13-4) picked up an important victory against the Texas Longhorns (21-9, 10-7), 68-61.
At the end of the first half, Texas had a 30-27 edge.
The score remained tight for most of the game, but Baylor would finally break open the Longhorn defense. In the final five minutes of the second half, Baylor began to pull away after a 9-0 run to separate them from Texas.
Baylor held on to the lead they gained from that run and finished the job against this Longhorn team.
BEARS GET GREAT OUTINGS FROM THEIR STARS
Adam Flagler had a stellar scoring night for Baylor yet again, finishing with 19 points and five made three-pointers.
James Akinjo stepped up as well, finishing with 19 points along with eight rebounds. The dynamic duo of Akinjo and Flagler has stepped up for Baylor all season long, and Monday night’s game was no exception.
The Bears’ defense held the Longhorns to 4 of 23 from the three-point line, while Baylor was able to knock down nine of their own shots from behind the arc.
TEXAS PLAYED TO BAYLOR’S CALIBER
Even at home, taking on the third-ranked team in the country can always be a challenge. However, the Longhorns had a solid outing and were able to hang with a tough Baylor team.
Christian Bishop had a double-double performance with 13 points, 11 rebounds and three blocks. The senior played well in his final game at home in Austin, although the win would have been a great cherry on top.
